Notes
- The Series was conceived by Edward Stratemeyer, owner of book packager The Stratemeyer Syndicate, who died less than two weeks after the first three books were published.
- The first three books in the series (#1: The Secret of the Old Clock, #2: The Hidden Staircase, and #3 The Hidden Staircase) were published simultaneously on April 28-28, 1930.
- The original texts (#1 – 34) have 25 chapters, while the revisions and subsequent books in the series (#1 – 56) were shortened to 20 chapters.
- A few of the digests (#57 – 64) were published in the hardcover yellow editions by Simon & Schuster in 2005, for Nancy Drew's 75th anniversay.
Trivia & Fun Facts
- Other names originally considered for Nancy Drew included: Stella Strong, Helen Hale, Nan Nelson, Diana Dare, Diana Drew, and Nan Drew (which was the publisher’s preference).
- While originally a blonde, the cover illustration of #35 The Haunted Showboat came out red-haired, and she soon-after began being referred to as “titian-haired” in the series.
